R&d into Laser Applications for Accelerators*
نویسندگان
چکیده
Lasers can be used for the generation of high brightness electron and exotic ion beams, the acceleration of particles with the highest accelerating gradients, as well as for the characterization of many complex particle beams by means of laser-based beam Diagnostics methods. In addition, (free electron) lasers can be used for achieving the highest time resolution and strongest fields for experiments in atomic physics, chemistry and biology, i.e. for studies into the dynamics of some of the most fundamental processes in nature. Without constant progress in laser technology and close collaboration between laser experts and accelerator scientists, many of today's most advanced experiments would simply be impossible. The LANET consortium combines developments into laser technology and sensors with their application at advanced accelerator facilities, for the generation, improvement and optimization of a wide range of particle beams.. This contribution presents the consortium's broad, yet closely interconnected experimental program.

Laser wakefield accelerator based light sources: potential applications and requirements
In this article we review the prospects of laser wakefield accelerators as next generation light sources for applications. This work arose as a result of discussions held at the 2013 Laser Plasma Accelerators Workshop. X-ray phase contrast imaging, x-ray absorption spectroscopy, and nuclear resonance fluorescence are highlighted as potential applications for laser–plasma based light sources. We...

متن کاملFirst staging of two laser accelerators.
Staging of two laser-driven, relativistic electron accelerators has been demonstrated for the first time in a proof-of-principle experiment, whereby two distinct and serial laser accelerators acted on an electron beam in a coherently cumulative manner. Output from a CO2 laser was split into two beams to drive two inverse free electron lasers (IFEL) separated by 2.3 m. The first IFEL served to b...
متن کاملThree electron beams from a laser-plasma wakefield accelerator and the energy apportioning question
Laser-wakefield accelerators are compact devices capable of delivering ultra-short electron bunches with pC-level charge and MeV-GeV energy by exploiting the ultra-high electric fields arising from the interaction of intense laser pulses with plasma. We show experimentally and through numerical simulations that a high-energy electron beam is produced simultaneously with two stable lower-energy ...
متن کاملCharacterization of laser-driven single and double electron bunches with a permanent magnet quadrupole triplet and pepper-pot mask
Electron beams from laser-plasma wakefield accelerators have low transverse emittance, comparable to those from conventional radio frequency accelerators, which highlights their potential for applications, many of which will require the use of quadrupole magnets for optimal electron beam transport. We report on characterizing electron bunches where double bunches are observed under certain cond...
